Gregg’s Background and Shooting Purpose

About Gregg

Gregg’s involvement with and love of nature design photography in the Rocky Mountains started when he was a young man. Born in Cody, Wyoming, he was fortunate to grow up close to five different mountain ranges and Yellowstone Park. His cameras and lenses went with him on day hikes, high mountain basin back pack trips, day horse rides, a twenty-two day horse pack trip over numerous mountain passes, car trips and Colorado 4 Wheeling.

Over time he grew up as a photographer and developed his photographic eye. He found an affinity for sensing the design and essence of objects waiting to be unleashed. He sees what wants to get out and reveals it. It is like figuring out what is trying to get out, what is waiting to be released, at that moment in time and then capturing it.

The goal is to capture a two dimensional essence which is the same, identical essence the three dimensional cloud/wild flower naturally radiates. The camera is used to create an essence replicating their essence. The true, honest essence of an object, its inherent design, is released to exhibit itself. When that happens, the results are impeccable photography design renditions. The natural design of clouds and wildflowers are both majestic. The trick is capturing their majesty with photographs revealing their majesty.

Artist´s Statement

My respect and affinity for mountains and nature beauty developed across five mountain ranges around Cody, Wyoming where I was raised. Four Nikon lenses went with me by foot, by horse, and by car. Over time I became an accomplished nature design photographer.

I have lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1984. Over time I shot a cloud series. Over time I shot a wild flower series.

I unleash what a cloud is trying to say. I unleash what a wild flower is trying to say. When the grandeur of their expanse is matched and when the majesty of their delicacy is matched, is equaled in two-dimensional art, I know the work is finished. When that happens I know the clouds can be rendered no more perfectly than I have rendered them. When that happens I know the wild flowers can be rendered no more perfectly than I have rendered them.

I pair cloud and wild flowers who share design elements. When my eye pleasantly, easily flows back and forth between a mammoth cloud and a thumb nail size wild flower, I know the two belong together and the work is finished. I know they can be paired and rendered no more perfectly than I have rendered them.

I believe God gave me the eye to grasp and fairly render some parts of His creation.
